No Safety in Numbers; Book 1
Author: Dayna Lorentz Description: When a Bio-Warfare bomb is found in the air vent of a crowded shopping mall, the entire complex is placed under an endless quarantine. At first, there's the excitement of being in a shopping mall with gift cards and free food, but when people start dropping dead because of riots and a mysterious disease, four teens cross paths and try to stay alive in a deadly scenario. Our Thoughts: We believe that No Safety in Numbers; Book 1 is very graphic and gory, and we advise younger teens not to read this. Bookworm Info classifies this as horror. The action doubles the details and plot explanation. What is happening with the bomb is highly unexplained throughout the novel so that the reader can only speculate what is happening. It does, however clearly explain what is occurring to the teens as individuals. We rate this 7.5/10. |

Where the Rock Splits the Sky
Author: Phillip Webb Description: Megan lives in a quiet village on the bridge of the Zone, a barren desert that plays tricks on your mind and body. Her father disappeared into it years before. Now, Megan is almost ready to find him. But when the aliens residing in the Zone try to murder her in her own home, she must dart out, unprepared into a deadly stretch of land with no forgiveness. Our Thoughts: This book is very unusual in the fact that is has so many weird aspects to it. When we read this book, it reminded us of the movie "Cowboys and Aliens". The plot has many unneeded twists that just extends the strangeness of the book. The details do lack and the action comes in short whips. The climax is very uneventful. We rate this 6/10. |
The Other Normals
Author: Ned Vizzini Description: Peregrine "Perry" Eckhert is a teen obsessed with "Creatures and Caverns", a popular RPG game. He is sent by his parents to a secluded summer camp where his gaming tools are confiscated. While trying to get them back, he meets a character from his game in real life! From that moment on, he is whisked into a thrilling adventure in a parallel universe with princesses, hybrids, magic, and pure excitement. Our Thoughts: The Other Normals is a breath-taking adventure novel. It does have nudity throughout and Bookworm Info does not recommend it to young kids. The plot is well played out. The characters act like the reader would expect them to if they were in real life. The book does have religious views which could be offending to some readers. We rate this 7/10. |
Dark Life; Book 1
Author: Kat Falls Description: Ty is classified as "Dark Life", those who live in underwater shelters off the coastline. He wants to be normal, aside that fact, which he half-accomplishes. But rumors are going around that all kids living subsea have supernatural abilities, so life is hard. Things get even more complicated when an orphan girl in a derelict submarine appears in Ty's homestead and the government threatens to ban all subsea living. Ty and the girl, Gemma, must now hunt down a gang of deadly outlaws to continue their ways of life. Our Thoughts: Dark Life; Book 1 is heartfelt and emotional with a plot tied directly to the reader's core. The plot is amazing. We loved this book because of its balanced equilibrium of detail and action. KAt Falls has left Bookworm Info and countless others desperate for more. We rate this 9/10. |
